Sewing Project

Last night in Walmart as I was waiting on some photos to process, I found on of those tote kits. The kit comes with everything but thread. So eventually this:

Will become this:

I'm excited about it. Plus it was originally $12, but I got it for $3.  If it goes well I saw another one that I want. Wish me luck.

Update: Since I originally typed this, I went back two days after having bought the above bag.  There were no more bags!!!  From Saturday afternoon until Monday at noon, all the other bags had been bought!  Thanks a lot Walmart for moving them from the back of the store to the front so that everyone else would see them.  Oh well, as it is I haven't even started on this one yet.  Wish me luck again!

Movie Review- You Again

It has once again been a long time since I posted a blog, so I thought I would do a little review of the movie I watched last night. I remember when I saw the trailer for You Again I really wanted to watch it because of the cast. I had since forgotten it until a few days ago when I was adding dvds to my Netflix queue and saw it. I put it at the top of my list and last night I finally got to watch it. It stars Kristen Bell as Marni who was picked on in high school by everyone mainly the head cheerleader. Fast forward years later and she's very successful. She's flying home for her brother's wedding only to find out he's marrying the girl who tormented her in high school. Her parents are played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Victor Garber and grandmother played by Betty White. As the story unfolds you find out the bride to be Joanne's aunt, played by Sigourney Weaver, went to school with Marni's mother, and they had their own drama.  The movie was really funny and done well. I also have to mention that the amazing Kristen Chenowith is in the movie as a dance instructor.  I thought the movie did a good job of capturing the feelings that we have even as adults if we've dealt with bullying in school. One thing that really impressed me is that the movie is rated PG; there was no profanity at all. I find that so refreshing in a time when almost every movie has major cussing in it unless it is geared to a young audience. As my husband said to me, this movie  is a good example to show youth about bullying.  It shows how hurtful bullying is, but also how you hurt yourself when you don't let things go. I highly recommend this movie and I give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

While I am seriously over-excited about next week's "The Rocky Horror GLEE Show," I cannot say I was as excited to hear that Fox has offered Ryan Murphy, GLEE creator, an opportunity to remake the cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Look, I love GLEE. It is a guilty pleasure of mine, but we are talking about a MAJOR cult movie here! I only just discovered RHPS this year. Yes, I am a late bloomer. :) I saw it on DirecTV one day, and had heard much about it and decided to watch. It's just such a fun and funny movie. I just think it is time that Hollywood gets some original ideas and stops remaking old movies. I mean seriously, what is up with that?? Okay, maybe there have been some good remakes. Currently the only one that is even slightly better is The Crazies. I have seen both versions, and I like the remake better. Perhaps it is because the star is Timothy Olyphant, perhaps not. But how about Halloween & Psycho? My point is why does Hollywood feel it necessary to remake everything? What was wrong with the original? Let's look at Psycho. Hitchcock was one of the best directors ever! Why would you even want to think of remaking one of his movies? There's no way you could get a creepier Norman Bates than Anthony Perkins. I like Vince Vaughn, but he was SO wrong for that part. Which brings me to my main problem with the remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Who could possible play Dr. Frank-n-Furter better than Tim Curry? I say NO ONE!

Sick of being sick

I know I have completely neglected my blog since starting it last month, but I just haven't really had time or I haven't felt like blogging. Since my last post, several health issues have occurred. First, the apparent cramps I was having was actually a nice little (read BIG) bladder infection which was so painful, almost as painful as the kidney stones I had several years ago. Almost. By Monday when I went to the doctor to get medicine for THAT, I had developed a cough, but since the Prometrium listed a cough as a side effect, I wasn't concerned. Since that time I have finished the Prometrium (and the antibiotic for the infection) and started the birth control pills. I've been on those for about 2 and 1/2 weeks, and I really don't see any difference in the problem I was having before and now. During this time however, I have developed an even worse cough and lots of head congestion. I went to the doctor concerning that last week and was prescribed Amoxicillin 500 mg. As of today, I am down to the final 3 doses and not feeling any better, so I called and asked for a strong prescription and some cough medicine for nighttime. Something stronger than the Robitussin Nighttime Cough & Cold I started taking Sunday night. The doctor prescribed Azithromycin 250 mg, which are the type of antibiotics you take 2 the first day and then one the following 4 days. I hope this stuff works. They would not give me any cough medicine though. They told the pharmacy they wanted me to take OTC cough medicine. Humph! Are they concerned with an addiction? I don't know why. The pharmacist was very nice and told me the Robitussin I had was fine. I'm looking forward to Saturday when I can rest all day since my husband will be at work, and people keep telling me I should be resting not working. Needless to say, (why do we say that, obviously we feel we do need to say it) since I've been sick I have not had a chance to check out a Weight Watchers meeting. Nor have I been able to try out my new dance DVD my mom gave me for my birthday. Hopefully this new medicine will begin to work soon!

1st day

As I mentioned in my first post, I started taking the Prometrium last night. Today has been a tough day. I was concerned this afternoon because I was having pain in my right side and lower right back. After getting in contact with a doctor, I felt much better. Apparently it's just cramps. I've felt blah all day with the pains and also slight nausea and pains in my abdomen/stomach. At least this is only for 10 days. I hope this gets better.

Everything by Lifehouse

Here is the link to a video I would like to share with you. It pretty much speaks for itself, but it is a skit to the song Everything by Lifehouse. It had me in tears near the end of it. Just really beautifully done. Hope you enjoy.

Intro

First I want to do a little introduction. I'm 30, although I'll be turning 31 at the end of this month. In September I will have been married 5 years to a really wonderful man. We have no children, but we do have a dog, Gracie. She's part dachshund and part chihuahua. She's a cutie and pretty much tells us what to do. We are both really involved with our church, especially with the youth and kids. In January, hubby became the part-time youth minister, which means he now gets paid for what he was already doing and has to take on more responsibility than before. I teach 3rd & 4th grade Sunday school with another woman. We take turns each quarter so beginning in September I'll be teaching again. I also signed on to help with the youth during AWANA. This is our Wednesday night program. We just started our second year. Last year I was the secretary, but I really missed working with the youth, so I jumped at the chance to work with them this year. I work for an insurance agency. Yes, I am the dreaded insurance agent. What can I say, it pays the bills. My husband works for an electronics store that also carries a particular cell phone company. So that's our life pretty much.

I've been thinking of starting a blog for a while. I just hope that I can keep it up. I want to use this to share everyday thoughts and things I find of interest I would like to share with others. I also want to share my progress as I attempt to lose weight. I just went to the doctor this week and learned I most definitely have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Here is a link if you are interested in learning more: http://www.4woman.gov/FAQ/pcos.htm#a

Basically, I have cysts on my ovaries and this causes my reproductive system not to function properly. Women with PCOS have more difficulty getting pregnant. Since I am so overweight, the doctor suggested that I not attempt to get pregnant right now. The first thing she wants is to try to get the endometrium lining to thin, so she put me on Prometrium. I have to take it at bedtime for the next 10 days, then have the mother of all monthlies. Sorry, I know some people might not want to hear some of these things, but I promise not to get too graphic, hence my choice of wording above. After this month, I can choose to either take the Prometrium for a few more months and take the risk of getting pregnant OR I can take 6 to 9 months of birth control pills. During this time, I can work on losing weight. At the end of that time, we can maybe talk about taking fertility medicine if I want to get pregnant then. I am hoping this blog, will help keep me in check. I really truly want to lose the weight this time. I never stick with it. So any encouragement would be greatly appreciated. My first step is checking out a nearby Weight Watchers meeting on Monday. Apparently you can go to one free meeting, so I figure I can't lose anything by going. My biggest problem, other than wanting to eat all the time, is exercising. I really love dancing so I hope to find a good beginners video. Any suggestions??

Hopefully I haven't bored anyone. I just ask that you be patient with me as I try this blogging thing out.
